  The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) world communication center will open this fall as the John and Diana Hagee Communication Center. President Kermit Bridges announced the naming in honor of the Hagees during the SAGU Board of Regents banquet Thursday evening.

• Lions Volleyball Team to Host Benefit Beach Tournament for the Jessie Rees Foundation (NEGU) on May 11
  

  Bump, set, spike and support a good cause on Saturday, May 11 at the beach. Vanguard University’s Lions Volleyball is teaming up with California FCA Volleyball and Huntington Beach’s Mariners Church to host a beach volleyball tournament to raise money for the Jessie Rees Foundation (NEGU).

• Byron Klaus Reappointed Seminary President; Appointed Vice President of Evangel University
  

  Dr. Byron Klaus, President of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) since 1999, has been selected by Dr. Carol Taylor, President-Elect and Chief Executive Officer of the consolidated Evangel University, for reappointment to presidency of AGTS and service as a vice president of Evangel University, according to Dr. George O. Wood, chairman of the Evangel Board of Trustees.

• Drew Watson Named Southeastern University Director of Athletics
  

  Southeastern University Vice President for Student Development, Chris Owen, announced today that Drew Watson has been selected as the school’s director of athletics.

• Vanguard University’s Interim President – effective June 15, 2013
  

  David W. Clark retired as president of Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2009 after serving in this position for six years.  During his tenure the university grew significantly and several major new buildings were completed. He is an adjunct graduate professor of higher education leadership in the doctoral program at Dallas Baptist University.  Clark has served on numerous boards including the National Religious Broadcasters, Vanguard University, PowerPoint Ministries, and currently serves on board of International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and Net 211. 

• Vanguard University’s Global Center for Women and Justice Hosted Anti-Child Labor Activist Anuradha Bhosale
  

  Carrying a message birthed from experience, Anuradha Bhosale, Vice Chairman of The AVANI Organization, shared her mission and work in assisting mothers of child-slaves in India on Monday, April 15, at Vanguard University.

• We Were at the Wrong Place at the Wrong Time, but We Did the Right Thing!
  

  The recent tragedy and subsequent chatter about guns, immigration, and terrorism has filled the 24/7 news media with a flurry of words, opinions, and time-filling chatter. I watched an interview with five workers from a restaurant near the Boston Marathon bomb sites. They retold their experiences as the bombs exploded and how they had responded to the resulting carnage. They gave example after example of what seemed to be instinctive acts of compassion, protection and, frankly, what would be easy to call heroism. When the program's host asked these folks if they considered themselves heroes, they all responded with emphatic expressions of NO!

• SAGU collects American Red Cross donations for West
  

  Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) partnered with the American Red Cross to collect items for the West Texas relief effort.??Items may be donated at SAGU's Garrison Wellness Center Monday-Friday 6?a.m.-11 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m.-6 p.m. The?collection runs Monday, April 22, through Friday, May 3.?? SAGU will accept the following items unopened in original packaging.

• David Moore named President of American Indian College
  

  In a unanimous vote by the American Indian College (AIC) Board of Regents, Dr. David Moore, who currently serves as the vice president for student relations for the Alliance for Assemblies of God Higher Education (AAGHE), was named the president of AIC. Moore’s tenure begins June 1, 2013. Current president Dr. David DeGarmo resigned but will continue to serve at the college until after graduation in May.

• Northpoint Offers College's First Masters Program
  

  Northpoint Bible College (AG) has announced the creation of its first masters program in theology, intentionally geared toward individuals with a passion for church planting. Its new Masters of Arts in Practical Theology with an emphasis on church planting and church revitalization will launch this fall.

• Evangel University Concert Choir to reunite and tour with Cuban choir
  

  The Evangel University Concert Choir performed a series of groundbreaking concerts in Cuba last May and was joined by a 13-voice Cuban choir who traveled and performed with them. This year, the choirs will reunite for a tour of 10 cities in the western United States. 

• Twelve Evangel University students travel to Washington D.C.
  

  Twelve Evangel University students will participate in the Washington D.C. Studies Program, Feb. 26 – March 9.  The trip, sponsored by the social sciences department, will provide students the opportunity to gain knowledge of the capitol and work alongside senators and representatives.

  SAGU will host the 2013 Seven:Fourteen Prayer Conference on March 5-6, 2013. The Seven:Fourteen conference was previously known as the Prayer and Bible Conference.

  It began as The Haven of Rest, a radio program that emerged from the redemptive story of a well-known Los Angeles radio personality in the early 1930′s.  After destroying a successful career in radio, hitting rock bottom, and accepting Christ as his Savior, Paul Myers created The Haven of Rest which brought thousands to faith in Christ.

  Evangel University honor society Phi Alpha will host a new member induction on Monday, Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. in Trask Hall. Dr. Billie Davis, former chair of the university’s behavioral sciences department, will be the guest speaker. 

• Two SAGU student films receive first place awards
  

  Two Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) student films will be honored with first place awards at the 2013 National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) Convention and Exposition in March. "Under the Sun" will receive the first place award for longer film category, and "To Every Nation: The Mission Ten" will receive the first place award for television/video documentary in the intercollegiate competition.

• Evangel & MSU to celebrate National Social Work Month with ethics seminar
  

  The Evangel University Social Work Program and Missouri State University’s School of Social Work will present a free ethics seminar on Friday, March 1. The program is designed to meet the 3-hour ethics licensure requirement for licensed clinical social workers.

  The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) is proud to announce the publication of the first issue of an academic journal devoted to missiology from a Pentecostal perspective. The International Journal of Pentecostal Missiology (IJPM) is a peer-reviewed, electronic journal with periodic publication.  

• Evangel University to host 30 Founders Scholarship candidates
  

  Evangel University will interview 30 Founders Scholarship candidates on Friday, Feb. 15. Two students will receive full-tuition scholarships and 10 students will receive half-tuition scholarships, effective upon their enrollment at Evangel. 

• Southeastern Announces Addition of Women's Golf, New Home Course
  

  Southeastern University's growing golf program has a new home.

   

  Interim Director of Athletics Drew Watson announced Thursday afternoon at The Club at Eaglebrooke that SEU will be adding women's golf to its varsity lineup beginning next fall. He also announced that Eaglebrooke will be the home course for Fire men's and women's golf.

   

• Russian adoption ban blocks SAGU alumnus's dream
  

  Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) alumnus Ryan Froman and his wife Teri adopted a child from Russia in 2011. The Russian ban on U.S. adoptions has halted their adoption process of another Russian child.

• Evangel University professor publishes article for Alpha Chi
  

  Dr. Geoffrey W. Sutton, professor of psychology at Evangel University, published an article in the alumni issue of the Recorder, Alpha Chi’s scholarly journal, titled “Academic Pilgrimages.” 

• Christian Maldonado Kicks Off Signing Day as Southeastern's First Football Signee
  

  Freedom High School’s Christian Maldonado became the first signee for Head Coach Keith Barefield and the Southeastern University football program when he signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday in the Sportsplex at Southeastern.

  Dr. Charlie Self, director of the Ph.D. in Bible and Theology Program and associate professor of church history at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS), authored the newly released book Flourishing Churches and Communities: A Pentecostal Primer on Faith, Work, and Economics for Spirit-Empowered Discipleship, published by the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty. 

• Vanguard students volunteer to help with biannual “point in time” count for federal funding for homeless
  

  Around 4:00 a.m., while you were likely still asleep, Vanguard students were out and about volunteering their time with the biannual “point in time” count of the homeless population.  Why?  Because it is required for continued federal funding for shelters and other related programs.  According to the LA Times, the city is applying for $16 million.

  Evangel University will host legendary singer/songwriters Bill and Gloria Gaither as part of a two-day lecture series on gospel music and worship heritage. The lecture series, Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 12 and 14, will also feature former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

  Mary Wickman, PhD, RN, Director of the Nursing Program and Professor at Vanguard University, has been elected to be the Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL) Board of Directors South representative in 2013. ACNL is a statewide nursing organization that seeks to position nurse leaders to influence the future of health care by developing nurse leaders, advancing professional practice, influencing health policy, and promoting quality health care and patient safety.

• Evangel student presents research on forgiveness at Missouri conference
  

  Evangel University senior, Kayla Jordan, presented the results of a summer research program at the Missouri Undergraduate Psychology Conference held Nov. 10 at Westminster College, Fulton, Mo. Jordan’s project was funded by Psi Chi, the national honor society for psychology. Her presentation examined the role of apologies and perspective on forgiveness.

• SEU Professor Named Big Brother of the Year for Tampa Bay Area
  

  Dr. Samuel Bennett, professor of education at Southeastern University, was recently named 2013 Big Brother of the Year for the Tampa Bay Area. Bennett’s involvement in Big Brothers/Big Sisters has been extensive, including serving on the Community Resource Board and helping with recruitment, and his nomination for the award rose from his commitment to the organization and his consistency in working with the little brothers in the program.

• Global University's Berean School of the Bible launches curriculum on e-Pubs
  

  Global University, a fully accredited distance education university of the Assemblies of God, has launched its Berean School of the Bible courses in additional electronic versions in English.

• Vanguard University named in The Orange County Register’s 10 biggest stories in Costa Mesa for 2012
  

  This was the year that Costa Mesa officials rolled out their Homeless Task Force initiatives. They combine strict enforcement against smoking in parks and other common homeless behavior, with hiring a social worker and other measures meant to help people off the streets.

  For only the second time in Valley Forge Christian College athletic programs' history, a women's soccer player has been named All-American.  Sophomore Kelli Noecker plays defense for the Patriots and is a two-time All East Region Player.

  Marilyn Campbell, administrative assistant in the Evangel University Business Department, will retire after thirty-six years of service.

• Prospective Nursing, Football Programs on Track After Receiving Board Support
  

  The exciting future of Southeastern University is a few steps closer to reality.

  Southeastern's Board of Trustees gave the final stamp of approval on many initiatives meant to continue pushing the university forward at its meeting on campus November 8-9. Among them were the beginning of a football program and the approval to pursue a nursing program, changes that could bring hundreds of new students and millions of dollars of investment to the campus in the next few years.

   

• Descartes and Jesus
  

  The cacophony of the season that includes Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, Happy Holidays, and Seasons Greetings just gets a bit too much for me sometimes. It becomes such a tsunami of self-promotion, masquerading as normality, that it leaves one breathless. I must admit that I struggle for some reasonable explanation about what happens in the last quarter of the calendar year. I may have found some personal consolation or at least insight from the French philosopher Rene Descartes. Centuries ago he struggled to find one certain thing from which he could build a framework for life. Famously, he settled on the statement "I think, therefore I am." (In Latin, Cognito, ergo sum). From this statement, Descartes built ideas that have had incredible influence over the centuries. In one sense, the 21st century reflects a massive family who might just be the children of Descartes!

  The Evangel University Marching Band will perform in the annual Springfield Christmas parade, beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, in downtown Springfield.

  The Evangel University Department of Music will present its 29th annual Christmas concert at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, in the Chapel Auditorium.

  Nearly 40 percent of Assemblies of God adherents are under the age of 25, according to annual church reports. Out of a constituency of 2.9 million members, that means nearly 1.1 million are children and youth.

• SAGU restructures colleges
  

  Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) in Waxahachie, Texas, announced plans to restructure its two academic colleges the College of Bible and Church Ministries and the College of Arts and Professions into three colleges in June 2013. The new colleges will be the College of Music and Communication Arts, College of Bible and Church Ministries, and College of Business and Education.

  Evangel University will host organist Dr. Joyce Jones on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m. in the Chapel Auditorium.

• North Central introduces Graduate Studies program
  

  North Central University, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has recently announced the formation of its Office of Graduate Studies.

  The office was created to provide high value programs, services and resources by continuing its overall institutional standard of academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment.

   

• Evangel to impact the community on Make a Difference Day
  

  Evangel University students will have a kick-off meeting at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Union and then will leave in teams to assist various agencies around the city. Partnerships will include Habitat for Humanity, Library for the Blind, Greene County Humane Society and Boys and Girls Town among others.

  Evangel University seniors Zach Payne and Brena Swanson each received a first-place trophy at the 2012 October Slam Forensics Tournament held Oct. 5-7 at Crowder College in Neosho, Mo.

  Victory Media, the leading media entity for ranking America's most "military friendly" employers and schools, has recognized several Assemblies of God schools by naming them to its 2013 Military Friendly Schools list.

  The Assemblies of God Executive Presbytery recently ratified the Executive Leadership Team appointment of Dr. Marilyn K. Abplanalp to give interim leadership to The Alliance for the Assemblies of God Higher Education (AAGHE) through June 30, 2013.

• Student receives 2013 UPS Scholarship
  

  Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) senior Tessa Tobar will receive a $2,400 UPS Scholarship provided through the ICUT Foundation. Tobar is the daughter of Raymond and the late Brenda Tobar and Steven and Margaret Farwell.
